Troubleshooting
Common fixes for sign-in, sync, download, upgrade, storage, recording, and project access issues
Troubleshooting
This page covers common LangQuest problems and the safest first steps to try before contacting support.
I cannot sign in
Try these steps:
- Confirm the device has internet access.
- Check that the email address is the same one used to register.
- Re-enter your password carefully.
- Use Forgot Password if you are not sure the password is correct.
- Open the reset email on the same device if possible.
If you were already signed in before going offline, you should still be able to use local data. First-time sign-in requires a connection.
I do not see an invitation
Ask the project owner to confirm:
- They invited the email address used for your LangQuest account.
- The invite was sent to the correct project.
- Your role was selected correctly.
Then:
- Connect to the internet.
- Open LangQuest.
- Check Notifications.
- Refresh or reopen the app if needed.
Email can be delayed, but the in-app notification is the best place to check.
I cannot access a private project
Private projects require membership. If you see a lock or access message:
- Request membership if the option is available.
- Ask a project owner to approve your request or send an invite.
- Confirm the owner published the needed project or quest to the cloud.
Local projects on another person's device are not automatically visible to you until they are published and shared.
Sync seems stuck
Sync can take time when audio files are large or the connection is weak.
Try:
- Keep LangQuest open.
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi if available.
- Make sure the device is not in low-power mode.
- Check that there is enough storage.
- Wait for upload and download progress to finish.
Do not delete the app to fix sync problems unless support tells you to. Deleting the app may remove local-only work that has not uploaded yet.
A quest is not available offline
Before leaving connectivity:
- Open the project while online.
- Download the specific quest, chapter, pericope, or version.
- Wait for the download indicator to complete.
- Open the content once to confirm it loads.
For FIA content, open the pericope while online so guide text, narration, images, maps, and key terms can cache.
Recordings are missing from an export
If exported content is incomplete:
- Confirm the recordings are visible in the app.
- Confirm the quest or version is downloaded locally.
- Wait for active downloads to finish.
- Check device storage.
- Try exporting a smaller quest.
Cloud-only recordings must be downloaded before they can be included in a local export.
The app says an upgrade is required
An upgrade screen means the installed app is too old for the current data or sync rules.
- Connect to the internet.
- Update LangQuest from the App Store or Play Store.
- Reopen the app.
Do not try to bypass this screen. It protects your local database from incompatible changes.
The app shows a migration screen
LangQuest may need to update the local database structure after an app update.
- Keep the app open.
- Keep the device charged.
- Do not force quit while migration is running.
- If migration fails repeatedly, contact support with your app version and device model.
The app shows degraded mode
Degraded mode means LangQuest detected a local data or sync problem and is limiting some behavior to protect your work.
Try:
- Connect to a stable network.
- Keep the app open so pending work can sync.
- Avoid creating duplicate projects until the warning clears.
- Contact support if the warning remains.
Recording quality is poor
For better recordings:
- Recalibrate voice activity detection in a quiet moment.
- Keep the phone close to the speaker.
- Reduce background noise where possible.
- Use push-to-talk if automatic segmenting is not working well.
- Review recordings immediately and redo unclear segments.
Storage is running low
Try:
- Sync local work to the cloud.
- Export anything you need outside the app.
- Offload downloaded quests that are safely stored in the cloud.
- Remove test recordings.
- Avoid downloading large quests you do not need for field work.
Do not remove app data from your phone settings unless you are certain all important work has synced or been exported.
What to include when asking for help
When contacting support, include:
- Device model and operating system.
- LangQuest app version if visible.
- Project type: unstructured, Bible, or FIA.
- Whether you were online or offline.
- What you expected to happen.
- What actually happened.
- Screenshots if they do not expose sensitive content.
