Getting Started

This guide explains what happens the first time you open LangQuest and how to get into the right mode for your work.

Install LangQuest

Install the mobile app before field work:

• iOS: LangQuest Translation on the App Store
• Android: LangQuest on Google Play

The LangQuest website at langquest.org is used for account flows, the project portal, data management, and some deep links back into the mobile app.

First launch

When you open LangQuest for the first time:

1. Review and accept the terms of use.
2. Choose the interface language you want to use.
3. Follow the onboarding screens to understand projects, Bible workflows, FIA workflows, recording, and collaboration.

The terms explain LangQuest's open-data model: contributed content is released under the CC0 1.0 Public Domain Dedication. See Data Management for what that means for your project.

The onboarding walks you through the vision, creating a first project, chapter quests, recording, and inviting collaborators.

You can work in remote areas without a reliable connection, but first-time account actions like registration, sign-in, and password reset require internet access.

Account options

LangQuest supports several entry points:

• Sign in if you already have an account.
• Register with your email address and password if you are new.
• Browse public projects from All Projects when you want to look around before joining a project.

Some actions require a signed-in account, including viewing My Projects, publishing local work to the cloud, accepting invites, requesting membership, and syncing collaboration changes.

Register for LangQuest

1. Open LangQuest.
2. Choose Register.
3. Enter the email address you want to use for project invitations.
4. Create a password.
5. Sign in with the same email and password after registration.

Project owners must invite the same email address you used to register. If someone invites a different address, the invitation will not appear on your account.

Sign in

1. Open LangQuest.
2. Choose Sign In.
3. Enter your email and password.
4. Wait for your projects, invites, and requests to sync.

If you were already signed in before going offline, LangQuest keeps your local data available and continues to work offline. Sync resumes when connectivity returns.

Browse before signing in

The All Projects area shows public projects that can be browsed from the cloud. This is useful when you want to inspect public work before joining.

To contribute, save work, request membership, or receive invites, sign in first.

Reset your password

If you forget your password:

1. Open the sign-in screen.
2. Choose Forgot Password.
3. Enter the email address for your LangQuest account.
4. Open the reset link from your email.
5. Follow the link back into LangQuest or the LangQuest website to set a new password.

Use the same device when possible, especially if your organization uses mobile deep links for password reset.

The website also supports registration-confirmation and notification links that can open the LangQuest app when it is installed.

When an app update is required

Sometimes LangQuest requires an app update before it can safely open your local database. If you see an upgrade screen:

1. Connect to the internet.
2. Install the newest version from the App Store or Play Store.
3. Open LangQuest again.

This protects your local recordings and sync data when the app database structure changes.
