Offline, Sync & Storage

LangQuest is local-first. Your work is saved on your device first, then syncs when the device has connectivity and the project can connect to the cloud.

What works offline

You can usually keep working offline after the needed content is on your device:

• Open local projects and quests.
• Record audio.
• Review and reorder assets.
• Add translations.
• Work through downloaded Bible or FIA content.
• Continue using the app even if your sign-in session expires while offline.

Actions that require the cloud, such as signing in for the first time, requesting membership, accepting invites, and downloading new cloud-only content, need internet access.

Local-first storage

When you create or record content, LangQuest stores it locally on your phone. This protects your work in places where the connection is intermittent or unavailable.

Sync is separate from saving. A recording can be safely saved locally even before it has uploaded to the cloud.

Publish before collaboration

Local work is private to your device until it is published or synced to the cloud.

To collaborate:

1. Open the quest or chapter.
2. Tap the cloud upload icon.
3. Wait for the project, parent content, and quest to be saved to the cloud.
4. Invite project members or ask them to download the shared quest.

If you are only practicing, you can keep work local and delete it later.

Download quests for offline use

Before going into the field:

1. Connect to a reliable network.
2. Open the project.
3. Find the quest, chapter, or pericope you need.
4. Download the cloud version to your device.
5. Wait for the download indicator to show the content is available offline.

For FIA content, opening a pericope also queues guide text, narration, images, maps, and key terms for offline caching.

After the download completes, the quest shows a check icon instead of a download arrow.

Understand cloud-only and local versions

Quest version indicators may show whether a version is:

• Local only - It exists on your device but has not synced.
• Synced - It exists locally and in the cloud.
• Cloud only - It exists in the cloud and must be downloaded before offline use.

Download cloud-only versions before traveling.

Offload content to free storage

If your device is running low on storage, you can offload downloaded quest content that already exists safely in the cloud.

Use offload when:

• The quest is synced to the cloud.
• You no longer need offline access on this device.
• You want to free storage without deleting the shared project.

Do not offload content that still needs to upload. Wait until sync is complete first.

Check sync status

LangQuest may show sync and attachment progress in the app drawer or project screens. Watch for:

• Upload progress for new recordings.
• Download progress for cloud content.
• Offline warnings when the app cannot reach the network.
• Degraded mode warnings if local data needs attention.

If progress appears stuck, keep the app open on a stable connection for a few minutes before troubleshooting.

Field checklist

Before traveling offline:

1. Sign in while online.
2. Open every project you need.
3. Download required quests, chapters, pericopes, and versions.
4. For FIA projects, open the pericopes you need so guide media can cache.
5. Confirm download indicators show the content is available locally.
6. Make a short test recording and verify playback.
